There’s a reason you’ll find MILWAUKEE tools in the hands of tons of tradesmen. When their livelihoods are directly impacted (positively or negatively) by the tools in their arsenal, you can bet they won’t settle for anything that will slow them down.
Enter MILWAUKEE.
In a few years, the timeless brand will celebrate its centennial birthday. It didn’t get this far by subpar quality to workshops and jobsites. The FUEL line is testament to this legacy of performance.
The 2780 is no exception and provides reliability and power when needed. The M18 REDLITHIUM battery delivers 5.0 Ah to the tool at 8,500 rpm. Other batteries are available, too. You can scale back on the power if you need more portability or you can dial up the juice with batteries as powerful as 8.0 Ah.
The REDLINK PLUS system optimizes performance both in the tool and the battery. Overheating and overloading is a risk during particularly grueling jobs and the system within the 2780 prevents these from happening.
The included charger brings the battery to a full charge in about an hour, depending on battery size. The charger can accept both batteries from both the M12 and M18 line in case you have different voltage tools in your shop.
Brushless motors are becoming more standard due to their increased motor life and decreased maintenance. The MILWAUKEE 2780 includes a brushless motor to keep your workflows humming.
The included paddle switch is a different design than we’re used to, but we didn’t have any problem getting used to the mechanics. It’s intuitive despite being a deviation from some of the triggers on competing models.
One thing we really like about the 2780 is its completely tool-less design. Wheels and discs can be changed without a wrench, although MILWAUKEE does included one if you prefer to tighten the nut with a wrench rather than by hand. The blade guard is tightened down with a lever. Just release the lever, rotate the guard, and tighten the lever to get back to work.
The 2780-21 kit includes the tool, a 5.0 Ah 18-volt battery, a charger, and a heavy duty contractor bag.
- Powerful grinder
- Reliable performance
- Tool-less design
- No smart safety circuitry like restart protection
- No top handle mount
