The PCE310 from PORTER-CABLE delivers 15 amps to the blade at 5,500 rpm. However, the included blade is hot garbage; 18 teeth will cut just about anything but will likely result in a very rough cut that will require some serious cleanup. You’ll need a more respectable blade like this 60T option from Freud.
Ergonomically, the saw feels very comfortable in hand. It feels sure and steady, which is impressive considering its lighter weight. PORTER-CABLE sprung for a magnesium shoeplate which significantly cuts down on weight. The PCE360 only weighs 9 lbs so it’s easy to maneuver.
A spindle lock allows for easy blade changes (which you’ll need at least once) and the depth adjustment is robust. As far as other features, the PCE360 is a bit lacking. There are no extra features like a dust blower or laser. Granted, these are usually found on premium saws but we find these features creeping into the entry-level category.
The saw bevels to an impressive 55 degrees. That’s more than we’ve ever needed but it’s there if you need it. PORTER-CABLE thoughtfully included bevel detents at the 22.5-degree and 45-degree marks to make those common miter angles easier to dial in.
- Bevel detents make miter adjustments easier
- Light-weight
- No extra features found on competing saws
CONSENSUS:
The PCE310 from PORTER-CABLE has some room to grow. It’s a solid saw, no doubt, but we’d like to see some more features to set this model apart from the rest at this price point. Nevertheless, you won’t be disappointed if you’re looking for a standard, no-frills circular saw.
