RYOBI ONE+ 18V Lithium Ion Cordless 6-1/2" Inch Circular Saw (P507)

RYOBI’s P507 is the budget-friendly entry in the cordless circular saw game. Lighter weight and lighter power won’t tackle marathon working sessions but should be just fine for the occasional cut around the house or garage.

The P507 expands upon RYOBI’s ONE+ system, which at the time of writing is nearing 200 tools. The benefits of a system like ONE+ is that batteries can be used across many different tools and you only need one charger (maybe two if you’re using multiple tools at once).

Committing to one system can be expensive if you already have tools from other manufacturers. But if you’re just starting out, check out our reviews of other tool categories even if you’re not interested in them right now.

By sticking with a brand, you might miss out on the ‘best’ tool in each category but you’ll save money and time in the long run with a system that shares batteries across all of the different tool categories.

When compared to other systems, the RYOBI ONE+ line is more broad than others. For example, a competing system might focus on woodworking and metalworking tools and offer seven different circular saws to choose from. A broad system like RYOBI’s ONE+ keeps one or two options for every tool but includes a large variety of tools (saws, lawn mowers, speakers, even a cordless glue gun!)

The P507 circular saw uses a 6-1/2″ blade, which is fine for most cuts. When beveled to 45 degrees, the saw can cut a depth of 1-7/16″, which is barely too shallow to fully cut a 2×4.

We wish RYOBI would have squeezed out just a tiny bit more capacity since dimensional 2-by lumber (2x4s, 2x6s, 2x8s, etc) nominally measures 1.5 inches (or 1-8/16″) in width. 45 degree cuts can be accomplished in two passes, but it’d be nice if we could have done it with one cut.

The tool is lighter in construction. Much of the body is made of plastic. It’s a tough plastic, so it maintains some rigidity while keeping weight down.

A blade wrench is included for blade changes. The included 24-tooth blade is ok, but we think you’d have a better experience upgrading to a saw blade with more teeth, like this 40-tooth blade from Freud.

Blade depth and saw bevel angles are easy to adjust. Two adjustment knobs located on the front and back of the saw make quick work of both types of adjustments.

CONSENSUS:

Give the P507 from RYOBI a look if you’re needing an affordable and cordless circular saw to keep around the house for lighter woodworking projects. It’s light weight and can be expanded by RYOBI’s impressive ONE+ family of tools.  If you’re already a ONE+ adopter, the P507 is a cheap and easy addition for those quick cuts that don’t need a behemoth of a larger saw.
