DEWALT XTREME 12V MAX Cordless Drill Combo Kit (DCK221F2)

DEWALT’s XTREME 12V MAX package includes a drill and driver that satisfies most woodworking and metalworking needs.  The drill comes with the standard two-speed setting along with fifteen clutch settings to satisfy just about every torque need.  The drill uses a twist chuck to tighten down bits.  This works fine, but we like quick change clutches so consider adding something like this add-on from Bosch.  It’ll make your life much easier.

These tools are noticeably agile.  Both units are very compact.  This is particularly handy in tight or constrained areas like behind doors or under cabinets.  Every extra inch saved makes a huge difference when maneuvering tools and the DEWALT does well in this space.

Lighting is a hit or miss with drill/driver combos but the DEWALT includes lighting on both tools with a unique twist.  While most drills and drivers incorporate LED lights directly underneath the chucks, DEWALT positions its lighting at the base of the tool right above the battery.  It’s a bit unorthodox but it works just fine.  We don’t find any issue with the unique placement.

Both tools drill and drive their respective bits and screws confidently.  The construction of the combo kit is very well-made.  DEWALT lives up to its name with this duo.  The rubberized grip on both units is comfortable in hand and the handle contours add extra confidence during particularly strenuous jobs.

The package includes two batteries, which have flat bases so the tools can be set down upright.  Belt clips on both tools allow for easy access on the job or in the garage.  The included charger juices the batteries up quickly; zero to full charge can be achieved in a half hour.

The included case is constructed of a tough material that will stand up to constant abuse.
