MILWAUKEE 12-Volt Hackzall Saw Kit (2420-21)
The 2420 Hackzall pocket reciprocating saw from MILWAUKEE is a must-have for DIY and repair jobs around the garage and in the house or apartment. When you don’t need a bigger full-size reciprocating saw, this smaller unit can fit just about anywhere: under sinks, behind appliances, or inside closets.

Pocket reciprocating saws are the newer form factor on the scene but they’re incredibly handy when their big brothers aren’t needed. Full-sized reciprocating saws are just fine when doing demo work on a house, but when you need a quick cut on a small piece of wood, pipe, or plastic, these pocket models actually perform better due to their higher rpms and easier maneuverability.
The 2420 measures 11″ (under a foot!) and weighs about two-and-a-half pounds (about as heavy as half of a Chihuahua, for easy reference). It’s nimble in hand and felt comfortable to use. The rubberized handle provided plenty of grip, which was especially helpful during tougher cuts.
We like the angle of the grip on the 2420. It’s comfortable to maneuver, especially for cuts behind obstacles like under-sink disposals or toilets.
The forward grip is small, but that’s common for pocket reciprocating saws. If needed, there’s enough room for an extra stabilizing hand. The rubber guard ensures accidental hand placement on the blade is avoided.
The QUIK-LOK blade allows for easy blade changes without having to use hex wrenches or other complex steps. This particular model accepts a couple different types of MILWAUKEE blade types, specifically HACKZALL and SAWZALL blades. HACKZALL are the shorter blades designed for smaller saws and SAWZALL blades are designed for full-sized saws. We like that both blades can be used on the MILWAUKEE 2420.
A couple of electronic features are included on the 2420. First, a powerful LED light keeps the work area illuminated, which is especially handy in dim settings like under cabinets. Second, an LED power gauge shows the battery charge status at all times so you’re never surprised when it’s time for a battery swap.
