The 7.5 amp motor in the PCE360 isn’t as powerful than most of the competition. This shouldn’t be too much of an issue for lighter jobs but could present issues for heavier jobs. The saw weighs less than most, which has its pros and cons. Lighter saws obviously reduce arm fatigue but are also more susceptible to vibration and jerking when cutting through tough materials.
The saw can accept blades of any length, although we’d recommend sticking with shorter blades to accompany the smaller motor. Stroke length is 1-1/8″ which is standard for reciprocating saws. At 3200 strokes per minute, the PCE360 is faster than most of the competition, which should help compensate for the smaller motor at least a little.
Blade changes are easy with the standard keyless blade change system. This particular lock uses a twisting motion to lock and unlock the blade. The lock is spring-locked, which shouldn’t be an issue but might wear out over time compared to the lever locks on other models.
The shoe is adjustable in several ways, which we like. First, the shoe can be extended for different types of material thicknesses to ensure that the saw is fully engaged with the workpiece at all times. Second, the shoe can pivot which allows the saw to easily maneuver around various profiles.
- Pivoting shoe
- Priced lower than competition
- Lower power
- Lighter weight
CONSENSUS:
The PCE360 from PORTER-CABLE is a basic entry-level reciprocating saw. There’s nothing particularly compelling about this unit aside from its competitive price.
