The 4100XC enters the jobsite scene boasting the quality that can be expected with the BOSCH logo. Equipped with a 15-amp motor, the saw travels with the pack; although, the 3650 rpm is a bit below average for this class. However, this saw adds some smart electronics such as soft-start circuitry, constant response circuitry, and restart protection.
The soft-start circuitry allows the saw to spool up after you hit the power switch. The blade begins spinning at maximum speed ‘almost’ instantly, which prevents excessive shifting and jolting of the saw body. The constant response circuitry aims to solve a problem many of us have faced when feeding stock a tad too quick through the blade. The system adjusts power input so that the blade speed is maintained as best as can be when more aggressive cuts are presented to the saw. Last but certainly not least, the restart protection. This feat of electrical engineering is our favorite. If the saw is running when power is disconnected, it will not restart when power is reconnected even if the saw’s power switch is in the ‘ON’ position.
Consider this scenario: The saw is running and the power goes out. The saw won’t restart unexpectedly when the power unexpectedly returns. Another scenario: the saw’s power cable is yanked from the wall while it’s running. It won’t turn back on when you plug the cord back into the wall. You must switch the saw into the ‘OFF’ position and then back into the ‘ON’ position to start turning the blade. This simple but so applicable safety feature deserves a bunch of kudos from us at WWC.
Rip capacity measures 30″. This doesn’t quite stand against some of the competitors, but is certainly capable of ripping full sheets of plywood. As we’ve recommended elsewhere, outfeed support both on the sides and backside of the table saw will alleviate many issues surrounding larger cuts. The depths of cut for both 90-deg and 45-deg are satisfactory. Both angles are able to process the standard 2×4 in both ripping, cross-cutting, and beveled operations.
The sliding fence is popular among different table saw models and the 4100XC performs well in this category. The measurement tape along the fence is detailed and includes a magnifier to help the user dial in exact measurements. The miter saw is ok. Like most jobsite table saws, plastic abounds. Lock in solid cross-cutting operations with an all-metal gauge like the Incra MITERV27.
The 4100XC comes equipped with the patented Gravity-Rise stand. Through some clever actuations and pivot mechanisms, the stand can open and close with minimal effort from the user. The Gravity-Rise stand leverages the weight and placement of the saw to ensure a smooth action when compacting, deploying, or relocating the table saw.
The included construction-grade blade isn’t anything to write home about, so consider upgrading to a Freud 60T Fine Finish blade. At $50, it won’t break the bank but will advance your experience of the 4100XC by leaps and bounds.
Safety features beyond the aforementioned electrical engineering wizardry include a push stick, riving knife, blade guard, and anti-kickback pawl. The standard 2-1/2″ dust port accomplishes all the dust collection needs you could muster with the 4100XC.
- Electronic safety features prevent accidental restarts
